The Eagle

This pendant is inspired by a strong color Kakemono on silk by Maestro Hokusai, painted in 1843, the year of the artist’s 84th birthday. A large eagle scans the sky, ominously studying his prey. In this work we have tried to express the spirit of the artist who may have represented himself in this splendid bird; ferocious, brave, solitary. The eagle contrasts notably with the delicate and shaded landscape behind him. The care in the engravings of the feathers and the attention to detail in the gilding of the cherry blossoms and of the background seem to us a worthy tribute to the art of the great master.
